April 28, 2025 — S. Martinelli & Company has voluntarily recalled more than 170,000 bottles of its apple juice after federal regulators detected elevated levels of patulin, a mold-based toxin, during routine testing.
The recall affects 10-ounce clear glass bottles of Martinelli’s Gold Medal Apple Juice, sold in 4-packs. Consumers can identify the recalled products by a best-by date of December 5, 2026, and the UPC number 0 41244 04102 2 printed on the label. Only bottles produced in December 2023 are impacted.
According to the company, the affected apple juice was distributed to retailers in 28 states, including California, Texas, and New York. Martinelli’s emphasized that no other products or production dates are part of this recall.
The issue surfaced when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted routine testing and discovered that patulin levels in some of the juice bottles exceeded acceptable safety limits. Patulin is a toxin created by certain molds that commonly grow on apples and other fruits. If consumed in large quantities, it can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal discomfort, according to the World Health Organization.

In a statement, Martinelli’s said it is working closely with the FDA to address the issue and took immediate action once notified. The company has removed the affected products from store shelves to prevent further sales. As of now, no illnesses related to the recalled apple juice have been reported.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled juice are advised not to drink it. Instead, they should discard the bottles or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Martinelli’s reassured customers that it remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of product quality and consumer safety. Anyone with questions about the recall can contact the company directly for more information.
